PEI Health Coalition Press Conference – National Day of Action Against Alberta’s Bill 11

Cornwall, PEI – March 16, 2026 – The Prince Edward Island Health Coalition will hold a press conference on Monday, March 16, at 11:00 a.m. at Cornwall Town Hall as part of a National Day of Action with the Canadian Health Coalition and health advocates across Canada. The event will raise concerns about Alberta’s Bill 11 (Health Statutes Amendment Act, 2025), which allows physicians to work in both the public system and a private-pay market, a model critics say opens the door to a two-tier health care system.

Alberta’s new two-tier law allows out-of-pocket charges for medically necessary care. This sets a dangerous precedent for the implementation of a U.S. system across Canada.

The coalition is calling on Prime Minister Mark Carney and Health Minister Marjorie Michel to protect Canada’s universal health care system and enforce the Canada Health Act.
